Join health scheme - Retired Employees Liberalised Health Scheme (RELHS-97)



The South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU) has urged all former employees who did not join the Retired Employees Liberalised Health Scheme (RELHS-97) to enrol their names forthwith.
In a press release, Ch. Sankara Rao, SCRMU general secretary and Assistant general secretary, All India Railwaymen’s Federation thanked the Railway Ministry for extending/reopening the scheme till March 31, 2010, for those who had put in qualifying service period and not yet joined it.
Mr. Rao said this was a last and final chance for former employees to join the helpful scheme. The period during which it would be opened was from March 16, 2009 to March 31, 2010. He said instructions regarding lock-in period were also applicable to retired/medically-invalidated employees and spouses of railway employees who died in harness/after superannuation and had not joined the RELHS-97 earlier.
They were permitted to join the scheme within three months from the date of invalidation/death of the employee, he said.
During the lock-period of six months from the date on which retired employees joins the scheme after depositing the concerned fees, he/she will be entitled for medical treatment in railway hospitals and other Government hospitals including State-owned autonomous hospitals .
